Preparing for Football Season with Braces

It’s that time of year again! Tailgates, watch parties, cheering from the stands, we’re talking about FOOTBALL!

Everyone’s favorite team is gearing up for their season and so are you. You are up early on Saturday putting up your favorite college team’s flag and for the real diehards you’re back at it again Sunday morning with different colors supporting your favorite pro team. We’re so excited we can practically hear the fight songs!

The only thing you look forward to more than kickoff is the tailgate! It’s so close you can almost taste it, but can you? Will you be able to enjoy all your game day favorites? This is a question you may have if your team’s jersey isn’t the only new gear you got in the offseason. If you are undergoing orthodontic treatment and have traditional braces, you are probably wondering if you will get to enjoy all the deliciousness that a tailgate has to offer. Whether it is something hot off the grill, a prepared dish, or something snack-worthy poured into a bowl, the good news is that with traditional braces you will be able enjoy plenty of the tailgating standards. You will just have to take a little precaution while chowing down on a hotdog or hamburger.

The bad news, you will have to pass on some of your other favorites. You’ll have to think twice before reaching for a slab of ribs or a buttery ear of corn. During the game when a bowl of potato chips or pretzels is being passed around, you’ll have to call an audible and hand it off. However, if you don’t have traditional braces yet and are contemplating orthodontic treatment but you’re worried about how this will impact your tailgating experiences, it’s important to remember that there are other options to the traditional wire and bracket treatment. Invisalign is a less invasive treatment that may also suit your orthodontic needs. With many popular benefits, aside from it being a virtually invisible treatment, you also have the option to remove the plastic aligners to eat, drink, brush and floss. This means that when game day rolls around you can enjoy all your favorite munchies without any worries. No whistles or flags thrown when you reach for that plate of chicken wings and certainly no penalty for nervous eating potato chips when your team is down by 3 with only 30 seconds left on the clock.

At Just For Grins Orthodontics, we’re just as excited about the football season as you are! Whether you’re cheering for the Crimson Tide or the Auburn Tigers, we are here to answer any questions you may have on which foods you can or cannot eat during tailgates or while watching the game on the big screen.
