How long does Invisalign take?

The average case with Invisalign will take anywhere from 12 to 18 months to complete. To experience the most effective and efficient treatment period, you must wear your aligners as instructed. You will keep your aligners in place for at least 20 to 22 hours a day. (If you fail to wear your aligners as your orthodontist instructs, your treatment period will be longer.)

How does Invisalign Teen Work?

Invisalign Teen works in a series of custom-designed clear aligners. Using iTero scanning technology, our orthodontists will make mess-free, precise 3-D impressions of your teeth to begin the Invisalign process. These impressions will be used to create your custom treatment plan with Invisalign Teen.

You will receive a set of custom aligners—one aligner to fit your top teeth and one to fit your bottom teeth. Every 1 to 2 weeks, you’ll switch out your set of aligners to wear a new set, and every 10 to 12 weeks, you’ll visit our office to receive new sets of aligners. Each set of Invisalign Teen aligners is custom-made to shift your teeth closer to the ideal alignment. You’ll wear your aligners for at least 20 to 22 hours a day.

Special Features of Invisalign Teen

One of the Invisalign Teen benefits is the ability to remove your aligners throughout the day, but this also means that you’re responsible for the progress of your treatment.

For you to reap the full benefits of Invisalign, you must wear your aligners as instructed. Invisalign Teen comes with “compliance indicators” built into the aligners. These compliance strips allow you, your orthodontist, and your parents to see how frequently you’re wearing your aligners.

Invisalign for teens also includes “eruption tabs” that hold space open in your mouth to allow new, undeveloped molars to emerge.
