For 36 years, Dr. Kendall Dunn has been doing something pretty special: helping generations of families in Montgomery, Millbrook, Wetumpka, and the surrounding communities smile with confidence.
And while 36 years of orthodontic care is an incredible milestone on its own, Dr. Dunn’s story is even more remarkable. She was one of the first female orthodontists in the state of Alabama—a true trailblazer who helped pave the way for women in orthodontics while building a practice centered around exceptional care and genuine relationships.
But perhaps the most important part of her story? Dr. Dunn is the founding orthodontist of Just for Grins Orthodontics.
When she opened the practice in 1990, she wasn’t simply starting a business. She was creating the kind of orthodontic practice she wanted her community to have: welcoming, personal, and focused on helping patients feel confident in their smiles.
From Trailblazer to Trusted Community Orthodontist
After earning her dental degree with honors from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry and completing her Master of Science in Orthodontics at the University of Tennessee, Dr. Dunn returned home to Montgomery and opened Just for Grins in 1990.
At the time, being a female orthodontist in Alabama was anything but ordinary. Dr. Dunn was one of the state’s early female orthodontic pioneers, entering a profession where women were still vastly underrepresented.
More than three decades later, her career is a testament to what can happen when expertise, determination, and a genuine passion for helping people come together.
And she hasn’t just watched orthodontics change—she’s been part of that change. From the early days of traditional braces to today’s advanced treatment options and technology, Dr. Dunn has continued to grow alongside the profession while keeping the patient experience at the center of everything she does.
36 Years of Treating More Than Just Teeth
One of the most rewarding parts of spending 36 years in the same community is getting to watch patients grow up—and sometimes come back with families of their own.
Dr. Dunn has had the privilege of treating children who became teenagers, teenagers who became adults, and families who have trusted Just for Grins with one smile after another.
That kind of longevity doesn’t happen by accident.
It comes from taking the time to get to know patients, listening to their concerns, explaining their treatment, and making them feel like more than just an appointment on the schedule.
Dr. Dunn has always believed orthodontics should be about more than straightening teeth. It’s about helping people feel better about themselves.
“I love my job because I get to make a huge difference in how someone looks and how they feel about themselves.”
That philosophy has guided Dr. Dunn throughout her career—and it’s a big part of what makes Just for Grins feel like home.
A Practice Built to Last
When Dr. Dunn founded Just for Grins 36 years ago, she laid the foundation for a practice that would become part of the local community.
Today, that legacy continues with Dr. Alex Schreiber and the entire Just for Grins team. Together, they combine the experience that comes from decades of orthodontic care with modern treatment options and technology.
For families considering orthodontic treatment today, that means they don’t have to choose between experience and innovation. They can have both.
And perhaps most importantly, they can become part of a practice with deep roots in the community—one that has been creating confident smiles for more than three decades.
A Legacy Measured in Grins
Perhaps the best measure of 36 years isn’t the number of patients treated. It’s the number of families who have trusted Dr. Dunn with their children’s smiles, returned with younger siblings, recommended her to friends, and continued to consider Just for Grins their orthodontic home.
Dr. Dunn didn’t just found an orthodontic practice. She built a community of smiles.
So here’s to 36 years of Dr. Dunn, 36 years of beautiful smiles, and 36 years of making a difference in our community.
We’re incredibly proud to celebrate the woman who started it all—and the pioneering orthodontist who has spent her career helping Alabama families grin a little bigger.
Congratulations on 36 amazing years, Dr. Dunn! Here’s to many more smiles to come.
